Natural Locs
We are here to service your locs regardless of their condition. For starter locs, we offer the coil
technique for hair lengths shorter than 5 inches. The two strand twist technique is used for hair
lengths 5 inches and longer. It is recommended you cover the hair with a silk/satin bonnet or a
loc cap at night and use a shower cap when bathing. If you work around a lot of dust or dirt it is
feasible to cover the hair while working to avoid any debris getting trapped into the hair shaft.
For maintenance, its recommended that you come into the salon every 2-3 weeks for shampooing
and conditioning, depending on the amount of buildup on the scalp and hair. Also, for a hot oil
treatment and the chosen maintenance technique of either palm rolling, interlocking or finger
rolling. If you have already started your locs we can help maintain them. We offer you the
basics as well as specialty treatments including: manicuring and clipping, joining weaken locs,
loc repair and herbal rinses. Allow us to pamper your locs so that they will grow healthy, strong
and lush.
Loc Extensions
We offer loc extensions. This is a simulated loc procedure utilizing kinky human hair and is
recommended for those who want instant locs. Extension locs can be used for locs that need
repair, or to lengthen your locs, or to make some of your locs that may have thinned look thicker.
Our loc extension process allows you to have locs almost instantly. The process of growing locs,
which can take months and sometimes years, depending on your desired length, can now be
achieved in a couple of days. This is a style you must plan for in advance. A consultation is
required for this service. In the consultation process a hair analysis will take place and tester locs
will be applied to the hair to determine if you are the ideal client for the service. The color,
size and number of locs will be decided upon. This is an investment that can be hefty. However,
the results are stunning and undetectable. Even those who know you will marvel at the
realness of your extension locs and will think you grew your locs overnight. What are you
waiting for call today to schedule your consultation and be on your way to having your dream
come true instantly.
Steps to Beautifying Natural Hair
1. Have a consultation with a professional licensed cosmetologist.
2. Shampoo the hair weekly or biweekly using lukewarm water, use shampoos and conditioners formulated for natural hair.
3. To properly shampoo the hair, thread your fingers through the hair and massage the scalp clean. Once the hair is lathered, stretch the shampoo lather through the hair ends, this keeps the hair from tangling. (Note: never massage the hair in a circular motion or use vigorous motion, it tends to tangle and matt the hair).
4. After shampooing the hair, towel dry, then use a detangling conditioner to soften and for
better managing when combing.
5. Comb natural hair wet with a large tooth comb, starting from the ends and working up the hair shaft.
6. For a tangle-free and painless comb-out you need to comb small sections, then loosely 2-strand twist each section. The sections help the hair air dry soft and loose or makes it easy to blow-dry the hair with a blow-dryer and nozzle comb attachment.
7. A hot oil treatment is needed once a month. Trim the hair on an as needed basis. If you receive thermal hair straightening services, a trim will be needed more often.
8. Natural hair is thirsty (dry and dull) in need of extra botanical and herbal extracts coupled with moisturizers.
9. Use a daily moisturizer, immerse a dime or quarter size in your hands; depending on hair length, and apply throughout the hair.
10. Make sure you keep the scalp lubricated with a light hair oil. Heavy oils tend to clog pores and attract debris and lent to the hair. Avoid products that contain petroleum and alcohol.
11. If you are having a thermal straightening service make sure a heat protectant is applied before drying or thermal curling the hair.
12. Invest in a silk scarf or silk bonnet to cover the head at night. Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase. It is imperative to use silk or satin fabric to cover the hair due to cotton fabrics breaking the hair off.
13. Drink plenty of water and eat plenty of green vegetables.
14. Choose natural hairstyles that are best for you based on career, lifestyle, and image choices. Choices are: afro, bantu knots, coils, coil set, cornrows, double strand twist, nubian knots, one strand twist, plaits, twist sets, just to name a few.
15. It is imperative to purchase at home maintenance products for in between salon services from the stylist.
16. If you are considering hair extensions or weaving services make sure you receive a conditioning treatment and a trim if needed before committing to the service.
Curly, Kinky, Wavy Hair
Curly, kinky and wavy hair is inherently dry and porous. It need all the moisture it can get. Because of the dryness, we tend to pile on oils, waxes and silicones to add moisture, shine and to control the curl. The buildup from these products can prevent your hair from breathing, and may cause damage, frizz and dehydration. In addition, this too will add to dryness. Our deep treatment penetrates each strand with a two-way moisturizing system which attracts moisture to parched areas as it seals in its inherent lubricants. We customize deep treatments for each client and apply onto the entire mane. You are placed under a dryer/steamer for 15-20 minutes. The heat/steam allows the treatment to penetrate the hair shaft. Now your thirsty hair has been quenched. Cutting curls, kinks and waves can be unpredictable. Sometimes they shrink, swell or even kink up when wet. Many think that wetting the hair will straighten and control the curl so cutting won't be so difficult. They don't realize this approach changes and creates more curl; making it impossible to check the accuracy of their work. We prepare your curly, kinky or wavy hair for an accurate cut by blowing it straight first. This really allows us to assess the state of your hair. We are able to see the true areas of damage or breakage, density texture and length. It also allows us to impose a precise shape onto your curly hair. This is critical. Curly hair must have shape and balance to fall properly. Thinning, carving and notching are common methods used to deal with the bulk and texture. These methods look great in the salon (after professional styling and products are applied) but you are sometimes left with a haircut that is hard to understand when you go home. Wearing your hair straight is even puzzling because of the various lengths and densities. Be sure to choose the right cutting method for your curls, kinks and waves. Choosing the right cutting method is critical to the growing out stage. Because of shrinkage, many Curlies come in less frequently for trims. They need a cut that will maintain its shape. We address the curl pattern and bulk with the Angle and Balance Method. Through face framing angles, soft layering and light slicing. Our techniques allows for a graceful grow out stage. In addition, you will have the versatility of wearing your hair both curly and straight because the cut is balanced. The haircut will dictate the shape and the shape will dictate the final look of your hair. We offer a variety of curl sets that temporary change your curl pattern. Some of these sets include: Bantu Knot Set, Braid Set, Coil Set, Double Strand Set, Finger Styling, Spiral Set, Shingling, Straw Set, Twist-outs.
